Tickets sales have topped 22,000 at Huddersfield’s John Smith’s Stadium for the clash between England and Ireland at Rugby League World Cup 2013.
And tournament organisers are confident that the game in less than three weeks time, on 2 November, will be played in front of a full stadium with a capacity crowd of over 24,000 as ticket sales rocket following the recent announcement of the England team.
The stats make this match the fastest selling England fixture of RLWC2013, though sales are also strong for the showdown with Fiji at the KC Stadium in Hull on November 9, and the clash with Australia at the Opening Ceremony in Cardiff on October 26.
And many of those who have already snapped up tickets are new to the game, such is the demand for attending live international Rugby League matches. Being there for England’s only guaranteed game in West Yorkshire is proving a big draw so the advice is to get your tickets now or miss out.
Cllr Jean Calvert, Kirklees Council Cabinet Member said: ”There can be no better setting for a Rugby League World Cup 2013 match than in Huddersfield – the birthplace of Rugby League – and no better match to be played at the John Smith’s Stadium than England v Ireland.
“The game will be a culmination of many months of hard work. As well as the in the build-up to the big game we have a wide range of projects bringing Rugby League activities to schools, community clubs, sports centres and libraries – all inspiring local people to get involved in the game as players, coaches or spectators.
“Hosting a Rugby League World Cup 2013 match in Kirklees has given the council and its partners a really unique and exciting opportunity. Here in the Rugby League heartland, we are aiming to create a legacy so that many more people can enjoy this exciting sport.”
Hospitality packages are also selling fast with The Fanzone completely sold out and only a few of the Gold Packages left. Those wishing to add to their matchday experience need to make their bookings as soon as possible or risk being left disappointed.
Gareth Davies, Managing Director of KSDL said “We at the Stadium are equally as proud of our role in making this match such a success. We have worked hard over a long period both with Kirklees Council and RLWC2013. The result is a show piece national sporting event at our community Stadium that we are all proud of”.
