Chadwick Lawrence named as legal partner for HD One development

West Yorkshire-based Chadwick Lawrence has been announced as official legal partner for The HD One development at the John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield.

The HD One
will build on the success of the existing John Smith’s Stadium, Odeon 9 screen multiplex, gym, and restaurants already on the 53 acre site.

The development includes over 250,000 square feet of leisure, sport, dining, retail and entertainment space plus a new 4* hotel and outdoor ski slope, all located on the riverside surrounding the Stadium.

As an official legal partner, Chadwick Lawrence will be the lead law firm on the project. The firm will help oversee the progression of the development, making sure that all legal requirements are in place prior to opening.

The firm will also assist with ongoing day to day legal advice and legal support across all aspects of the project.

Chadwick Lawrence is already a business partner at the Stadium, and has been stand sponsors for many years. The firm recently sponsored the ‘Cowshed’ at the Stadium.

Although a number of national legal firms had previously advised on the project, a decision was taken at board level to appoint local professionals to the HD One project wherever possible.

The project will be overseen by Steven Bonfield, partner of the company and commercial department of Chadwick Lawrence, who will take the role of legal project manager.

Steven will be responsible for managing the firm’s team of corporate and property specialists and reporting to the directors, as well as being directly involved in the negotiation of the commercial and corporate governance aspects of the various joint venture companies which will be involved in the project.

Neil Wilson, managing partner at Chadwick Lawrence, said: “This is a huge project which recognises the high level of expertise Chadwick Lawrence had as a firm.

“Our team has the professional ability and strength to deliver such a prestigious programme of work on a development which is set to truly bring a positive and exciting change to Huddersfield and the local community.”

Steven Bonfield, partner at Chadwick Lawrence, added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Chadwick Lawrence to show what we can do on the big stage.

“We are extremely proud of our involvement in Huddersfield and the local community, and applaud the directors of KSDL for having the faith and commitment to choose local professional partners to help complete this project.”

Gareth Davies, managing director of KSDL, also commented: “Although The HD One is progressing well, there is a lot of detailed work still to do, before construction can start.

“Much of this work is of a legal nature and both the board of KSDL and our development partners are pleased to be working ever more closely with Chadwick Lawrence. Their knowledge of our site and overall expertise are second to none.”
