HTAFC Inclusion and Empowerment Conference 2023

Overview

Following on from the success of Huddersfield Town’s inaugural ‘Female Inclusion and Empowerment Conference’, which was held at the John Smith’s Stadium on Thursday 12 October 2022, we are delighted to invite you to attend the second incarnation of this popular event.

Hosted by the wonderful Deborah Ogden, we have a fantastic line-up of guest speakers, all of whom are looking forward to sharing their personal perspectives on what inclusion and empowerment means to them.

Sponsors

Our headline sponsor is Thornhill Dental and we are proud to be working with them to deliver this conference. Thornhill Dental have supported the Club for many years and are patrons of our ‘Terriers Together’ equality, diversity, and inclusion work.

We are delighted that Sam Teale Productions are also sponsoring this event.

Guests will be able to meet representatives of both Thornhill Dental and Sam Teale Productions on the day, and hear directly from Sam Teale in his keynote presentation.

Join Us!

Join us at Huddersfield Town’s second ‘Inclusion and Empowerment Conference’ to hear from a range of high profile guest speakers, each of whom will share stories and insights relating to their experience of promoting inclusion and empowerment in their own life and career. The event will include a presentation from the Club to highlight how our ‘Terriers Together’ Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion work continues to be integral to our vision, mission, and values.

Guest Speaker: Ifem ‘Iffy’ Onuora, Head of Race Equality at the Premier League

Iffy is Head of Race Equality at The Premier League, having been appointed in April 2021. Amongst his duties, he’s Chair of the Premier League’s Black Participants Advisory Group (BPAG), and leads on the Premier League’s flagship, No Room For Racism, action plan.

Prior to this he’d spent nine years working for the Players Union (the PFA), in a joint role as Coach Educator and Equalities Executive. As part of his role there, he was a Trustee of the anti-racism organisation, Kick It Out, and sat on the FA Council as part of the FA’s Inclusion and Advisory board.

Before joining the PFA in 2013, he’d taken several Coaching roles as an Assistant Head Coach and Head Coach both in the UK and abroad, and all this after a fifteen-year playing career spanning three decades. Onuora began his professional playing career right here with Huddersfield Town between 1989-1994, returning to the Club a second time in 2004 toward the end of his career.

Keynote Speech

‘The Case for Equity and Inclusion in modern organisations’.

Guest Speaker: Ros Jones, Coach and Personal Development Expert

Ros Jones is a Yorkshire based business coach and personal development expert, empowering people in business to thrive and live their best life.

A qualified clinical hypnotherapist and founder of the Business Wellbeing Club, Ros has a passion for putting the balance back into business.

Ros is also a published author, with her first novel, When I Was A Girl released in 2022, a public speaker, media commentator and keen runner.

Keynote Speech

‘The power of your story for social change.’

Stories engage people at every level – not just in their minds but in their emotions, values, and imaginations, which are the drivers of real change. So, if we want to help bring about any change in society, we must be bold and tell our story – and listen to the stories of others.

Guest Speaker: Sam Teale, Sam Teale Productions

Sam Teale is the dynamic young founder of the award-winning Sam Teale Productions Ltd., which he established at the remarkable age of 17. His company, celebrated for its captivating video content, has forged partnerships with industry leaders like Booking.com, Santander, and Budweiser China. With their viral Christmas Advert, “The Go Kart,” amassing an extraordinary 40 million views worldwide, they’ve made a resounding impact on the media landscape. Sam’s enduring passion and enthusiasm are integral to his continued success.

Keynote Speech

Sam will be sharing insights to the importance of naivety in business and how that has helped Sam Teale Productions grow and will continue to do so.

Guest Speaker: Suzanne Ferreira

Suzanne is founder of The Proper Oats Company and an Accountant. She is well known for her ‘can do’ approach and doing any job within her business that needs doing. Suz and her business have also been featured on the BBC’s ‘The One Show’, who filmed the story of her setting up The Proper Oats Company. She is a regular guest speaker at many business networking events and is looking forward to sharing her story at the conference.

Keynote Speech

The stories that we tell ourselves (and hear from others) aren’t always true, but we have the power to write our own next chapter. It takes hard work and the ability to believe in yourself but once you have that, coupled with your goals and your ‘why’, you really can achieve anything you set your mind to.

Suzanne will be sharing her story of being a girl that hated PE in school and struggled at Maths to a woman who has competed in bodybuilding, launched a nationwide business, and is now launching a wealth management firm to help others take control of their financial future, all whilst raising her daughter alone.

Guest Speaker: Representatives of Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield Town will present an overview of its inclusion work to reinforce the importance of football being a game for everyone.
